I wrote a note.
It was on the table.
At least it was.
When I left.
I opened the door.
That was hard.
The night air helped.
A little.
Left foot. Then the right.
It’s strange when you
have to remember
how to walk.
The pavement was empty.
Except for the trees.
Just me.
And the trees.
My heart pounded.
My walk felt strange.
Alien.
When I left.
Right. Left.
Pounding. Ache.
Fear. Pain.
Right. Left.
I didn’t look back.
My pain grew.
But one thing I knew.
It was right that I left.

Oh how beautiful!
Reminds me of one of my posts:
http://teeceecounsel.wordpress.com/2012/09/09/do-you-want-to-be-free-walk-away/Very well written!
The most important part that makes anything worth doing lies in your last two lines; “But one thing I knew. It was right that I left.”
I love this poem!

Love the ending, but also love your use of grammar – the full stops on every line. It slows you down, feels heavy, just like that walk. Great stuff!

I have tread in those steps and wish that I could have stated it so succinctly and movingly. Beautifully written and extraordinarily revealing given the paucity of words. Very well done.
