I want a girl that
burns down churches,
shreds men’s souls,
turns me to stone.
I want a girl that
burns down churches,
impales my heart,
crushes my bones.
Her black locks,
more snake than hair.
Pain becomes tempting,
I no longer care.
Hold her gaze,
just for one breath.
I won’t look away,
I want this death.
I want a girl that
burns down churches,
flays my skin,
cripples my soul.
I want a girl that
burns down churches,
hangs my skull,
with the others she stole.
I want a girl that
burns down churches.

Be careful what you wish for. You may already know there’s no going back.

I love this poem, there is great imagery. Can I ask: is it a particular style of format of verse?

Thanks Miche! 8 line rhyming stanzas with a line break, standard iambic rhythm, interspersed with four line rhyming stanzas. Or just free verse….you decide!

Great! On the face of it ridiculous, but once you’ve read it, it makes total sense

I can’t decide if it’s a foil or a mirror of yourself that you desire and quite like having this to ponder rather than know an answer. The structure works – the repetition adds to it. The theme is blackhearted and reeks of suffering and death and I sincerely hope that I’m either wrong or it’s metaphorical. Very interesting.

Thanks for the comment Mike. You know when you just want to be consumed and destroyed by a woman.. Just for a split second..That.
