burns down churches,

shreds men’s souls,

turns me to stone.

crushes my bones.

Her black locks,

more snake than hair.

Pain becomes tempting,

I no longer care.

Hold her gaze,

just for one breath.

I won’t look away,

I want this death.

I want a girl that

flays my skin,

cripples my soul.

I want a girl that

hangs my skull,

with the others she stole.

I want a girl that

burns down churches.

I love this poem, there is great imagery. Can I ask: is it a particular style of format of verse?

Thanks Miche! 8 line rhyming stanzas with a line break, standard iambic rhythm, interspersed with four line rhyming stanzas. Or just free verse….you decide!

I can’t decide if it’s a foil or a mirror of yourself that you desire and quite like having this to ponder rather than know an answer. The structure works – the repetition adds to it. The theme is blackhearted and reeks of suffering and death and I sincerely hope that I’m either wrong or it’s metaphorical. Very interesting.
